Donald Knecht, Jr. graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1990 and earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law in 2000, where he graduated cum laude. While in law school, Don served as Managing Editor of the Loyola Law Review and won Faculty Awards for the highest grade in Advanced Legal Writing, Civil Law of Persons, Sales and Leases, and Trademark, Tradename & Unfair Trade Practices. He was named the 2000 Professor William L. Crowe, Sr., Scholar.

Before practicing law, Don served in the Lafayette Police Department as a patrol officer and detective for six years, conducting investigations in homicide, rape, armed robbery, burglary, theft, and forgery. He later served as an administrative law adjudicator for the Better Business Bureau, presiding over hearings under the Louisiana Automobile Lemon Law.

As a private attorney, Don has focused his practice on commercial litigation, ERISA, business litigation, intellectual property, construction law, personal injury, evictions, and legal ethics. Since 2015, Don has served as an Assistant District Attorney for the 15th Judicial District, where he prosecutes traffic violations and felonies.
